Summit Housing & Outreach Programs received a grant from the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton who provide one-time funding to community-based, self-help or grass roots agencies within the Halton Region.
The funding from the United Way was used to purchase food vouchers, transportation vouchers, and to pay for Police Checks. Service recipients of Summit Housing sometimes need help with the costs of, for example, travelling to and from doctor's appointments or hospitals. A policy of Summit Housing is to request Criminal Record checks for all new staff and clients in order to provide safe and secure housing. The costs associated with this are sometimes very difficult for clients to afford.
We are very grateful to the United Way for providing this funding as it benefits people diagnosed with a serious mental illness who are marginalized and (often) living below the poverty line. |
